Jaime Hunter

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Jaime L. Hunter, M.S. Ed. Is an ESL teacher with 10 years of experience working with students ranging from preschool to adult, from the university level to the Montessori school system, and from preliterate students to advanced level learners. She received her master’s in Teaching English as a Second Language and Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania and holds two bachelor degrees in English and Spanish from Temple University. Formally the Director of Operations at the Barrio Planta Project in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, Jaime currently instructs at the Politechnic University in Rivas, Nicaragua, as well as with the Biblioteca Movil and the Casa de la Mujer in San Juan del Sur.  She is fluent in Spanish and English.

Carrie Valladares

Co-Founder & President

Carrie Valladares, Board President, is a Senior Attorney at Microsoft Corporation, where she practices intellectual property and contract law. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, and the former President of Northwest Immigrant Rights Foundation. She has lived, worked and studied in France, UK, Israel and El Salvador, and is fluent in French, Spanish and English. Monica Jaens

Director of Operations

Monica Jaens is originally from Managua.  She has taught ESL (English as a second language) for over 14 years in Managua and San Juan del Sur. A graduate of UCA University in Managua with a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, she is now part of Escuela Adelante’s team.  Monica moved from teaching to administration last year, and her deep knowledge of the community and needs of teachers has served her well in the transition.  She loves working with kids and she enjoys learning from them.

Enrique Urbina

Growing Adelante Program Director

Enrique is originally from Granada. He holds an MBA from the National University in San Diego California and has taught Business Administration in Costa Rica and Nicaragua for over 35 years. He is fluent in English and Spanish. He is pleased to be contributing to the development of the Growing Adelante food production and productive infrastructure project. This is a unique opportunity to integrate Growing Adelante fully into the curriculum, with age-appropriate projects.
