Chicas Adelante

Adolescent girls enrolled at Escuela Adelante are invited to join a free mentoring program. Female mentors meet weekly with the Chicas Adelante. Mentors encourage girls in this extra-curricular program to challenge gender roles, as well as set high educational and career goals. They learn about healthy relationships, self-esteem, family planning/pregnancy prevention, and leadership skills for strong and equal participation in civil society. They also have tons of fun! Activities include swimming lessons, surf lessons, beach trips, and excursions. Staff members from Escuela Adelante volunteer on weekends to create these opportunities for the girls of San Juan del Sur.
