Jaime Hunter, Co-Founder & Director of Operations
Jaime is a language instructor with 12 years of teaching experience, ranging from Montessori preschool to the university level. She received her Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania, and holds Bachelor's degrees in English and Spanish from Temple University. Jaime previously served as the Director of Operations at the Barrio Planta Project in San Juan del Sur, and instructed at the Politechnic University in Rivas, Nicaragua, as well as with the Biblioteca Movil and the Casa de la Mujer in San Juan del Sur.
Jenny Boyd, Director of Development
Jenny manages grant writing and fundraising for Escuela Adelante. She has lived most of her life in Hawaii, Texas, Paraguay, and Oregon, and now calls San Juan del Sur home. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, where she trained elementry school teachers and helped start a school library. In Oregon she coordinated the ESL Program and school garden at Jefferson Elementary School, and managed a vegetable farm and CSA with her partner. She holds degrees in English and Psychology from the University of Texas, and studied Public Policy at Johns Hopkins University.
Joong-Bin Im, Board Secretary
Joong-Bin (“JB”) Im is a Senior Attorney at Microsoft Corporation, where he practices intellectual property and contract law. He graduated from West Point and had a successful career as a captain in the U.S. Army, during which he was stationed in the U.S. and Egypt as part of the Multi-National Forces and Observers in Sinai. He is an elder in his local church, and is heavily involved with the educational ministry. JB is fluent in Korean and English.
Carrie Valladares, Co-Founder & Board President
Carrie is a Senior Attorney at Microsoft Corporation, where she practices intellectual property and contract law. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, and the former President of Northwest Immigrant Rights Foundation. She has lived, worked and studied in France, UK, Israel and El Salvador, and is fluent in French, Spanish and English. She is the mother of three boys, and step-mother of two grown step-daughters and a grown step-son.
Will Pattison, Board Member
Will Pattison is an owner at Grupo Max S.A., one of San Juan del Sur’s premier construction companies and largest private employers. Before moving to Nicaragua, Will spent 10 years as a senior project manager at Amgen, Inc. He graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Will moved to Nicaragua with his wife to focus on growing his family, his surfing ability, some coffee, a few homes and partnerships to create a fulfilling life. He is fluent in Spanish and English.
Michelle Shireen Muri, Board Member
Michelle Shireen Muri is the Development Director at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. Michelle is a 2013 Washington State Equal Justice Community Leadership Academy Fellow as well as a recipient of the 2011 Lead the Way Fellowship from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service’s Women of Color Policy Network. She has an enormous passion for social justice and equality, and is particularly passionate about Escuela Adelante because she believes that educating young people about tourism in developing nations will help create local leaders that can better control, shape and steward the well- being of their own communities and country.
